Homes evacuated due to flash flooding

LYCOMING COUNTY PLACED UNDER FLOOD WARNING AT 9:40 A.M. AS SOME HOMES IN REGION ARE EVACUATED DUE TO FLASH FLOODING – Nearly a dozen people have been reportedly forced from their residences in the Cogan Station area of Pleasant Valley and Cresent Hill roads, where streams and runs have overshot their banks.

Several rescue boats were being used to help reach those who were stranded along Pleasant Valley Road and other areas. A River Valley Transit bus was dispatched to transport the evacuees to a shelter.

The village of Trout Run was also inundated with water after Trout Run overran its banks, forcing the closure of Route 14, fire officials told the Sun-Gazette at 9:30 a.m. Firefighters were assisting people reportedly stranded in the building at the Steam Valley Travel Plaza about 9:50 a.m.

In this provided photo, part of West Fourth Street in the city’s Newberry neighborhood was covered with water about 8:30 a.m.

Several streets in the city’s Highland Terrance neighborhood were closed due to flooding from Grafius Run.

In Old Lycoming Township, emergency personnel were assisting with evacuations along Zuni Lane.

The county’s flood warning is in effect until at least noon today.
