A man was rushed to UPMC Williamsport after being shot multiple times on Green Street, just south of Park Avenue, about 3:10 p.m. Monday, city police Capt. Michael Corter confirmed.

“He was shot four times,” but is expected to survive, Corter told a reporter at the scene.

Besides city police and hospital paramedics, several others responded to the scene, including city firefighters, sheriff deputies and probation-parole officers.

A woman who has lived all her 60-plus years on Green Street heard the gunfire while watching television in her home.

“I grew up here, and we never had anything like this before, never,” the woman, who did not give her name, said.

“I was watching a cop show. I then heard at least three shots outside,” she added. “I saw some people running down the street,” she said.

Green Street north from Memorial Avenue was close for a period of time until investigators were done photographing the scene, collecting evidence and having two vehicles towed for processing.

The gunman was identified late Monday night as Christian L. Campbell, 22, of 613 Green St, city police said.

It is alleged he shot Collin Smith outside his (Campbell’s) home, police said.

The motive for the shooting remained unclear.

Driving an Infinity SUV, Smith stopped in front of Campbell’s home while Campbell and another male were talking outside, it was stated in an arrest affidavit.

Smith stepped out of the vehicle and had a few words with the two men, police said.

Campbell went in his house and Smith got back in his vehicle, police said. However Campbell then came quickly back out and Smith again exited the Infinity, police said.

While the two were just at arm’s length from one another, Campbell “pulls both his arms up and points a firearm towards Smith, police said, adding that this was all caught on a doorbell video.

In the video, it “appears that Campbell shoots twice at Smith,” who runs and gets in his SUV, the affidavit stated.

“Campbell then shoots at the SUV,” prompting Smith to get out, dash for cover and seek protective shelter in a home, police said. Police said it appeared that Campbell shot at Smith one more time before Smith got inside the house.

When Campbell was found in the street, he claimed he had fallen and hit his head, the affidavit stated.

Upon being released from the hospital, Campbell was arraigned on charges of attempted homicide, illegal possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, all felonies; plus possession of an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault. District Judge Aaron Biichle denied him bail and he was automatically jailed in the Lycoming County Prison.
