A male driver is recovering from injuries he suffered early Saturday morning in a dramatic crash on Sulphur Springs Road in which he was ejected from his pickup truck that went airborne and overturned before landing on top of him in Hagermans Run, according to DuBoistown Fire Chief Paul McKinley.
The driver was heading south when his truck went off the road and slammed into a guardrail before going airborne, a mile south of South Williamsport, in Armstrong Township about 2:40 a.m., McKinley said.
Upon being ejected through the back window, the driver, whose identity was not available, landed in the run that was less than two feet deep, McKinley said.
Using cribbing as well as airbags and other emergency equipment, firefighters were able to lift up the vehicle enough in order to free the driver, the chief explained.
Emergency crews worked 15 to 20 minutes to free the man, who was conscious and talking the entire time. He was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport to receive medical treatment, McKinley said.

Although the crash was not visible from the road, a 100-foot section of guardrail landed in the roadway after being struck by the truck, McKinley said, adding that a passing motorist stopped, looked down over the embankment and called in the crash.
Firefighters from DuBoistown, South Williamsport and Montoursville responded to the accident as did hospital paramedics. State police are leading the investigation into the accident.
