Army recruiter files discrimination suit against Jersey Shore School District

An Army recruiter and his family have filed a lawsuit against Jersey Shore Area School District in federal court accusing the school district and its administrators of indifference to racial harassment and discrimination, according to Harrisburg’s PennLive.com.

The district disputes the allegations, its solicitor Christopher H. Kenyon told PennLive.com Thursday.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in U.S. Middle District Court, specifically names the school board, district Superintendent Dr. Brian Ulmer, high school principal Steven Keen and assistant principal Elizabeth Seagraves.

Adam Williams and his family moved into the district when he was assigned as an Army recruiter in Lock Haven. As the result of the alleged discrimination, bullying and harassment of their son and daughter, Williams successfully requested a transfer, leading to a pay cut and other expenses, PennLive.com reports.

While the lawsuit acknowledges meetings were held, parents notified and on several occasions an apology issued, the lawsuit also argues there were no follow-ups and that the school resource officer claimed he had not been asked to investigate any of the complaints, according to PennLive.com.
