Six charged with DUI
After discarding a cigarette from a side window, Gabriel Kane, 27, of 1300 W. Fourth St., was stopped by a state trooper in the 400 block of West Fourth Street in the city about 2:10 a.m. on April 24 and found to be impaired, according to an affidavit. Kane initially said he last ingested marijuana the previous afternoon, but then changed his story, saying he last used the controlled substance just hours ago, police said. A small amount of marijuana was recovered from his 2003 Grand Prix, police said. Charged with DUI of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and three summary violations, Kane has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge. A blood test revealed marijuana in his system, police said.
In another case, a state trooper detected an odor of alcohol inside a Chrysler 300 driven by Amber Dunn, 22, of 1921 Lincoln Drive, in the 800 block of West Fourth Street in the city after he stopped her about 11:30 p.m. last Feb. 12 because the registration on the car was expired. Charged with DUI and a summary violation, Dunn, who admitted to “having a drink or two” and had a BAC of .12, has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
In another case, when she was stopped about 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 on High Street in the city because there were no taillights on her 2015 Jeep Cherokee, Michenzie Lee Robinson, 41, of 424 Bruce Road, Cogan Station, “smelled of an alcoholic beverage, her speech was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot,” according to a city police affidavit. While undergoing a series of field sobriety tests, she showed “further signs of impairment,” police said. Robinson, who admitted to having “a couple of alcoholic beverages and refused to submit a blood sample, has been charged with DUI and a summary offense. She has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
In another case, Edward James Nicholas. 47, of 661 Rose St., apartment 1S, admitted he “had a couple of alcoholic drinks” before getting behind the wheel of his 2004 Ford and crashing into parked vehicles in the 1200 block of Park Avenue about 9:30 p.m. on May 14, according to a city police affidavit. Nicholas, who was treated at UPMC Williamsport for injuries he suffered in the crash, had a BAC of .10, police said. He has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
In another case, Victor Neil Garms Jr., 47, of 286 Hill St., Jersey Shore, had a BAC of .18 when he crashed his motorcycle at the end of his driveway in Porter Township about 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 14, Lycoming Regional police said in affidavit. When an officer arrived on the scene, Garms’ motorcycle was in the roadway, but Garms had gone back inside his house. The officer went to the house and heard a man and a woman arguing, the court document stated. Garms’ eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred, police said. He performed “poorly” during a series of field sobriety tests, police added. Charged with DUI and reckless driving, Garms is free on $50,000 bail. Police said this was his third DUI offense in 10 years.
In another case, after South Williamsport stopped her 2015 Toyota 4Runner in the 300 block of Kane Street because it “drifted” from the center of the roadway to the right nearly striking legally parked vehicles about 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 11, Jullian Woltz, 41, of 708 Curtin St., South Williamsport admitted she had “three mixed drinks” at a bar before getting back in her SUV, according to an affidavit. “She showed a sufficient number of clues of impairment” while performing field sobriety tests, police said. Woltz, who refused to provide a blood sample, has been charged with DUI and two summary violations, and is free on $5,000 bail.
