Two face drug charges in separate cases
While searching motorist Richard Dale Hunley during a vehicle stop on Green Avenue in Old Lycoming Township about 2 a.m. on June 24, a state trooper discovered a bag of suspected methamphetamine on him along with drug paraphernalia and a pair of brass knuckles, according to an affidavit. The 43-year-old former Hughesville man had been stopped because of an inoperable license plate light on his 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, police said. Hunley, of Millville, refused to allow police to search his vehicle, so a K-9 trained to detect illegal drugs was brought to the scene and “displayed an alert,” indicating there were illegal drugs in the vehicle, police said.
During a series of field sobriety tests, “Hunley exhibited signs of impairment” and was taken to UPMC Williamsport, where he submitted a blood sample, which revealed there was amphetamine and methamphetamine in his system, police said. The truck was impounded and searched two days later after a trooper obtained a search warrant, police said. An estimated 70 grams of methamphetamine were discovered in the truck, court records stated. Hunley was arrested late Friday morning and arraigned before Solomon on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and three summary violations. He was released on $15,000 bail.
In another case, Joseph Eugene Walter, 46, of 1244 Broad St., Montoursville, has been charged with delivery of a controlled substance for selling an ounce of methamphetamine to an informant in the 2600 block of Riverside Drive in DuBoistown on Sept. 25, it was alleged in an affidavit filed by the county’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit. Arraigned before District Judge Kirsten Gardner, Walter remains behind bars in lieu of $50,000 bail.
