Montoursville man charged with assault

While watching football with family members and a group of friends, a verbal argument between Daniel Ammerman and Austin Straub soon escalated to a confrontation in which Ammerman began pummeling Straub in the face and head, state police alleged in court papers.

The assault occurred at Straub’s home at 626 Crawley Hill in Penn Township about noon on Dec. 14, police said.

Straub was upset that Ammerman, was “disrespecting people in the home,” police said, adding that Ammerman, 37, of 415 Weldon St., Montoursville, allegedly struck Straub multiple times and knocked him to the ground, according to an affidavit.

Straub initially went to UPMC Muncy and then UPMC Williamsport, where he was admitted for three days while undergoing treatment for “a closed head injury, a concussion and a corneal abrasion,” police said.

Ammerman, who told police he was upset with Straub because he would not stop yelling at him, has been charged with simple assault and harassment. He is free on $10,000 bail after waiving his preliminary hearing Friday before District Judge Jon E. Kemp.

Montoursville man faces terroristic

threats-related charges

Angered by what he saw, James Bryan Place, with a gun in his hand, walked into the bathroom, slammed the gun on the sink and told Taylor Place, “Randy (Terry) leaves tonight or he’s leaving in a body bag,” a state trooper wrote in an affidavit.

James Place, 33, of 912 Nicely Ave., Montoursville, made the alleged threat at 170 Pinecrest Drive, lot 19, in Eldred Township on Friday night as Taylor Place was getting ready to take a bath there, police said. She had asked Randy Terry to bring a razor into the bathroom for her, police said.

When James Place saw Terry walking out of the bathroom, he became upset and confronted Taylor Place, police said. Police did not say how the Places were related nor did they explain the circumstances for why the two men were there.

Police did say James Place walked out of the home for a moment and then upon re-entering said “If he (Terry) doesn’t leave now, he will leave in a body bag.”

Arraigned early Saturday morning before District Judge Aaron Biichle on charges of terroristic threats and simple assault, James Place was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

South Williamsport man suddenly

‘started getting violent’

Quaheem Barnes and girlfriend Brittani Short were playing a video game in their South Williamsport apartment at 519 Fairmont Ave. late Friday afternoon when Barnes “started to get violent,” according to court records filed by borough police.

Police allege Barnes slapped Short and punched her in the ribs and attempted to strangle her.

Charged with simple assault and harassment, Barnes was jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail ordered by Biichle.

City teen charged with firearm violations

Cylee Thomas, 18, of 700 W. Edwin St., apartment 1-J, has been charged with possession of a firearm without a license and possessing a weapon on school property following an incident at the Day Treatment Facility, an instructional institution at 234 Beach Road in Loyalsock Township, on the morning of April 27, according to state police.

When Thomas entered the building, she brought with her a loaded handgun that was in a backpack, police alleged in an affidavit. She has since waived her preliminary hearing on the charges and is free on $10,000 bail.

Muncy area man charged after

allegedly punching minor

Jeffrey Bryant, of 4643 Clarkstown Road, Muncy, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a minor, simple assault and harassment following a domestic disturbance at his Muncy Township home about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, state police said.

Police allege Bryant punched a male minor in the left eye as the minor was attempting to separate Bryant and another family member during an altercation, police said. Following his arraignment before Biichle, he was released on $15,000 bail.

Woman allegedly assaults boyfriend with machete

During a domestic disturbance with her boyfriend in their home, Javona Bateman, 22, of 1208 Isabella St., picked up a machete and swung it at him, causing an injury about 3:40 a.m. on April 8, city police alleged in an affidavit.

The boyfriend, not identified in court papers, told police he and Bateman were “having an argument regarding their relationship and money,” police said. Bateman at first picked up a short knife, but the boyfriend managed to disarm her, police said. She then grabbed a machete that was hanging on a bedroom wall and began swinging it, striking the boyfriend in the chest, causing a six-inch long laceration, police said.

Charged with simple assault and possession of an instrument of crime, Bateman was arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey and released on $15,000 bail. She has since been held for court on both charges.
