Police forced to deploy taser to disarm man with hammer
Using a hammer, Tracy Matthew Butler, 24, of 2704 Dove St., smashed out several windows and caused numerous dents to another person’s car while it was parked on his block about 10 p.m. on May 28, city police alleged in an affidavit.
When officers arrived on the scene, Butler was holding a hammer in his left hand and was ordered to drop it, but he refused, police said. “Pop that bit-” he told an officer, who drew a taser gun and pointed it directly at him, the court document stated.
The officer deployed the taser and Butler was taken into custody, police said. Damage to the vehicle was in excess of $5,000, police said.
Following his arraignment before District Judge Christian Frey on charges of felony criminal mischief, possession of an instrument of crime, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, Butler was jailed, but has since been released on $10,000 bail.
