Love of the game

COLLEGE FOOTBALL — the best game, invented by the gods! I, like most fans, eat, sleep and think of nothing but college football during the off season. So I do take the sport very seriously — the NFL, not so much.

When a kid picks his first college to play ball, he takes pride in playing for that school. He takes pride of the colors of that school. He takes pride in the traditions of that school. He plays and practices hard to play for that school. On top of all that, he goes to class and tries to get a degree from that school so he can have a life after football. So please don’t tell me college football and bowl games aren’t important. It’s the last innocence of something you can do and have fun doing it.

Yes, I do believe as time evolves in college ball they start to think of the money and prestige that football can bring you. But in the beginning it’s just for pride, love of the game, and the school you represent.

I miss those qualities of college football. Maybe — just maybe — it may survive NIL, transfer portals, committing to a school and not backing out at a later date!

Just maybe for the love of college football.
