Weasel words

Trump’s political genius has long been to promise people that success was just around the corner. And those same folks never realize the corner rarely comes. I like to call his promises, “Weasel Words”. For example: “largely negotiated” “proceeding nicely” “largely agreed to” “gas prices will come down a lot” “We perhaps have the makings of a deal here” “In a few weeks” “within reach” “Moving Along Well” It might be interesting to keep a tally of these weasel words and see which ones are Trump’s favorite! Options can save lives

Cancer has a way of changing how a family sees time. I have watched people around me struggle with cancer and know how quickly life can become centered around the hope for more time together. It is one reason I believe we should do everything we can to help people catch cancer early, especially cancers that are far more treatable when found before they spread. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a perfect example. And unfortunately, the American Cancer Society estimates that 2,240 Pennsylvanians will die from CRC this year. The problem is that, for too many people, screening has ...

Disgrace

I have not written a letter for quite a while concerning the President of the U.S., but I finally feel that I need to express my humble opinions. I feel that Donald J. Trump is a disgrace to the United States and the office of the presidency. The corruption is off the charts, from cryto schemes to pardons for sale. The one thing that bothers me most is the destruction of USAID. This soft power program aided in providing food for starving children, HIV drugs (PEPVAR) and monitoring disease outbreaks primarily in Africa. The cost of the USAID program was under 100 billion dollars/year ...

Claiming credit for others’ accomplishments

Governor Shapiro’s recent re-election commercials featuring students praising his “Universal Free School Breakfast Program” are misleading. This program was actually launched in 2022 under former Governor Tom Wolf before Shapiro took office! Despite spending over half a million dollars on television airtime in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to claim credit, the administration should focus on Pennsylvania’s educational rankings. According to U.S. News and World Report, the Commonwealth ranks 39th in education and 41st overall, with nearly 70% of 8th ...

Failure and blame

President Trump loves to talk about all the renovations he has initiated. The Ballroom, the Arches, The Kennedy Center, the black granite walkway leading to the Oval office, the new patio cover the rose garden, the bathroom done in white marble, the gold detailing covering the Oval office. The Reflecting Pool is a good metaphor for the Trump presidency. President Trump talk about the plans he had for the Reflecting Pool. He bragged how much cleaner and beautiful it will be after he gets done with it. He talked endlessly how the pool would be paint blue not just any blue but flag blue, ...

Bipartisan effort

The National 250th Anniversary States Fair was a once-in-a-generation opportunity for states to showcase their history, culture, tourism, businesses, and economic opportunities to millions of Americans celebrating our nation’s founding. Many states recognized the value of this event and eagerly participated. Pennsylvania did not. I believe Governor Josh Shapiro made a serious mistake by refusing to have Pennsylvania participate. The Commonwealth had an opportunity to promote tourism, attract visitors, support local businesses, and highlight the many historical sites that played a ...
