Dietrich wins at Williams Grove
At Williams Grove on Friday night Danny Dietrich wired the field to win the Billy Kimmel Memorial for 410 sprint cars, It was Dietrich’s third win of the season at the track was worth $6,000 and it extended his point lead in the 2024 Hoosier Diamond Series at the oval.
In the Dirty Deeds 25 for the 358 sprints, Hanover’s Dylan Norris took the win after getting by Justin Foster mid-race for the $3,000 paycheck.
The victory was the 32nd overall of Dietrich’s career at Williams Grove, tying him with Steve Smith Sr. on the all-time win list at the oval. Williams Grove Speedway will team with Baps Motor Speedway to present the Kevin Gobrecht Classic Qualifier for 410 sprint cars coming up this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
The winner of the qualifier will be an automatic starter for the Kevin Gobrecht Classic taking place the following night at BAPS, paying $10,000 to win. The Williams Grove winner will receive $6,000 for his victory but he will also be eligible for a $2,500 bonus should he go on to win the BAPS event on Saturday.
The Gobrecht Qualifier and Classic itself honors the 25-year anniversary of the untimely passing of New Oxford’s Gobrecht, who lost his life in a World of Outlaws sprint car racing accident in Nebraska in 1999 at the age of 30. Gobrecht owns eight sprint car wins on the Williams Grove all-time 410 sprint car win list.
At Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night Freddie Rahmer took home $7,000 in the Rack Daddies Rumble, it was his first win of the season at Lincoln Speedway in a dramatic 33-lap sprint car showdown.
The feature lineup utilized the Australian Scramble, a unique way to set the first 10 starting spots. Lucas Wolfe started on the pole, and it was Wolfe who led the field into turn one, with Rahmer hot on his tail.
A red flag quickly flew for an opening-lap incident, leading to a complete restart. On the restart, Rahmer got a better jump on Wolfe who maintained the lead. Rahmer made a perfectly slider in turn four, taking the top spot and leading the first lap. Danny Dietrich swiftly moved into second, leaving Wolfe to fend off a charge from Chase Dietz, who eventually took over third place.
A yellow flew on lap 18 and the restart gave Dietrich and Dietz a shot at the lead. On the restart, Dietz found success by going to the top of the track, taking second place from Dietrich. Though Dietrich attempted to regain the position, Dietz held strong, holding on to the runner-up spot.
With seven laps remaining, Rahmer once again encountered lapped traffic, and Dietz started closing the gap, bringing the race within .785 seconds with five laps to go. Dietrich gained some momentum and reclaimed second late in the race. However, Rahmer kept his composure through the traffic and managed to hold off Dietrich’s late charge to take the checkered flag.
Rahmer’s victory in Saturday’s Rack Daddies Rumble makes him 3-0 in the event, having won all three Rumble features since it’s inception in 2022.
The Summer Series finale at Lincoln Speedway lived up to expectations with an action-packed 25-lap feature, as Andy Best emerged victorious in the feature, while Seth Schnoke clinched the Summer Series Championship title after a stellar season. It took 11 features to have a repeat winner in the 358 division this season, with Best becoming the first to visit victory lane twice.
Lincoln Speedway is back in action on Saturday with the PA Karting Grand Nationals.
