Tri-Town intermediate all-stars beat Eastburg 13-3 in second game at states

PHOTO PROVIDED Tri-Town’s Jax Duke (14), Kaden Caster (40) and Roman Meckbach (87) combined to hit four home runs in Tuesday’s 13-3 win against Eastburg in the Intermediate Little League state tournament. Meckbach hit two.

Tri-Town posted double-digit runs for a second straight game at the Intermediate Little league all-star tournament as Tri-Town cruised past Eastburg on Tuesday, 13-3.

The key for Tri-Town was being productive at the plate. Tri-Town’s intermediate all-stars collected 18 hits, four of which were home runs. And, of those four home runs, two came from Roman Meckbach who hit homers in the first and fifth innings to key Tri-Town.

“All I am asking my boys is to put the ball in play. Hard ground balls and line drives win championships,” Tri-Town manager Lyle Huggler said. “I’m real proud of Jax Duke today, he hit his first home run ever. My boys have been working hard and putting the time in. What a great platform for it to come together.”

Meckbach had two home runs, Duke hit one and Kaden Caster had the team’s other home run.

Meckbach had a team-high four RBIs as he finished the game 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Kellynn Wool went 2 for 3 with an RBI, B. Richmond went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Cash Jumper was 3 for 3 with an RBI and run scored. Duke finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

On the mound, Tri-Town’s pitchers limited Eastburg’s offense as Eastburg was held to just two hits. Smith pitched three innings and allowed just one hit and one run with six strikeouts. Conner Gordner threw 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout and no hits allowed and Travis Sherwood threw 2 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts, one hit and two runs allowed.

Tri-Town led 2-0 in the first inning and Eastburg cut the deficit to 2-1 after a solo home run in the second inning. Jumper would double down the left-field line in the second inning, however, to put Tri-Town up 3-1. Tri-Town would then add to their lead in the third inning after Duke homered, Meckbach grounded out and a single down the line put a runner on. Kameron Caster would double for a run scored and Wool also doubled for another run and a 5-1 lead.

Tri-Town scored twice in the bottom of the fifth thanks to two home runs.

Tri-Town is back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. to continue its run in the state tournament.
