Kegler’s Korner: Koser, Gridley both earn Bowler of the Week
Ryan Koser and Stacy Gridley won Bowler of the Week honors in a week that saw three 800 series, two female 700 series, and eight 300 games, plus Harvest Moon youth bowler, Cameron Strouse fire a 747 for his first career 700 series.
Koser posted an 834 series in the Monday Night Classic League, topping Bret Nogle’s 822 in that same league and Travis Rupert’s 823 in the Three-Man Major League. Gridley’s 749 in the Brenda Welshans Memorial League eclipsed Sandy Confer’s 740 in the 10+6 Ladies League.
Koser, Nogle and Rupert each had a 300 game in their big series, which was matched by Travis Betz in the Diane Fox Memorial League, John Clapper in the Monday Night Classic, John Albright in the Brenda Welshans Memorial, and John Heck Jr in the Intercommunity league, as John became the third bowler this season to throw back-to-back perfect games.
It could have been nine perfect games if Dereck Neyhart could have gotten that last pin to fall in his 299 game in the Intercommunity. Confer tossed a 290 game in her big series to take women’s high game honors.
Most pins over average: Brianna Barton was 86 pins over with a 255 in the Sunday Funday League, and Strouse’s 280 game in his series, exceeded his average by 89 pins.

Did you know?
According to USBC records, one George Wadleigh is given credit for bowling the first ever 300 game in official competition on January 8, 1890, in Jersey City, New Jersey. However, there was a perfect game bowled in open play in 1881 in Canada by Frank Young.
Of course, the first sanctioned 300 game bowled in our local association was posted by Joe Kittel on May 9, 1935.
Hope to see you on the lanes.
