Kegler’s Korner: Prince rolls 836 in Three-Man Major

Steve Prince started out with a 300 game in the Three-Man Major League last week and wound up with an 836, taking high series honors for all local bowlers for the week. That was the third 800 series thrown on the sports shot this season and the highest all time among local bowlers on the sports shot, eclipsing the 823 rolled by Travis Rupert just a few weeks ago.

Top weekly series for the women was 671 posted by Christine Gottshall in the Monday Night Classic League. That same league saw Nikki Allen exceed her average by 120 pins with a 265, to top the women in the high game department. Bill Kepner Jr. bowled 115 pins above his average in the Three-Man Major, matching Prince’s 300 game. Also bowling perfect games were Tom Sobiech in the Monday Night Classic and Tim Bailey in the Thursday Night Bowling League.

This week we remember 2015 local association Hall of Fame inductee Alice Clymer, who started bowling at the age of 21 in the mid-1950s and was a member of the local association for 56 years. During her 12 years on the board of directors of the local women’s association, Clymer helped with the cit tournament, attended state conventions as a delegate for 10 years, served on the Hall of Fame committee and participated in a variety of other activities including fundraising.

Clymer also served on the local 600 Club board of directors holding the offices of secretary and treasurer at various times. With more than 25 600 series during her career, including her career high series of 645, Clymer won four Bowler of the Week titles, while averaging as high as 177 and posting a career high game of 289. Clymer passed away in 2018.

The State Women’s Tournament, taking place in Williamsport, is now under way with one weekend down and four more to go, with no bowling on Mother’s Day and Memorial Day weekends. There are still plenty of spots available for any female bowlers who may want to participate.
