Curtin students raise money for Wounded Warrior Project

Fourth graders in Brenda Watkins’ class at Curtin Intermediate School are continuing to make a difference through a yearlong outreach initiative supporting the Wounded Warrior Project. During the PTO’s “Popping for a Purpose” fundraiser held on Veterans Day, students helped raise $400 for the cause. To better understand the impact of their efforts, students read stories from wounded service members and discussed how donations support their recovery.

The class also welcomed retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Raul Carbajal, a Wounded Warrior Project® recipient, and his service dog, Remus. His visit helped students make a meaningful connection to the organization they are supporting.

Recently, the class reached a major milestone by earning an official Wounded Warrior Project plaque in recognition of their commitment. Their fundraising total has grown to $652, and students are working toward a goal of $1,000 by the end of the school year.

Fundraising continues through May, with students preparing their next effort — “Propagating Plants for a Purpose” — this spring.

Starting at $2.99/week.
