TumbleBooks help kids achieve reading goals

JVB Check It Out

If you’re looking for educational games and books to keep your child engaged while helping them reach their reading goals this year, the public library can help!

The James V. Brown Library provides access to TumbleBookLibrary, a free online collection of ebooks for children that can be accessed at home.

There are more than 250 animated, talking picture books available through the TumbleBooks library. The site also features Spanish and French books, read-along chapter books, nonfiction books and exciting games and puzzles. To access it, visit https://jvbrown.edu/online-resources/.

There are five formats available: TumbleBooks Library, for children age one and in elementary school; TumbleBookCloudJunior, for children in third to sixth grades; TumbleBookCloud, for teenagers; AudioBookCloud, for audiobooks; and Math Ebooks for children in kindergarten to sixth grade.

TumbleBooks are storybooks that come to life in an educational and interactive way. TumbleBooks can read a story to a young child, or children can read-along with chapter books, watch videos that support learning or play along with a collection of puzzles and games that accompany each book.

You can use your computer, tablet or mobile phone or any device with an Internet connection. There are no downloads: Books are streamed right to your device at the click of a button.

Encouraging children to read — no matter what the format — is just one way the library champions the love of reading for kids of all ages. Research shows that creating a steady stream of new, age-appropriate books has been shown to nearly triple interest in reading within months.

TumbleBooks support the PA Forward state initiative by providing information literacy opportunities for learning and highlighting the transformative nature of public libraries within a community. When Pennsylvania residents of all ages know how to use current technology to improve their education and enhance their skills, they can fully participate in a digital society.

— The Office of Commonwealth Libraries has directed all PA libraries to close until further notice by order of the Governor. Due dates are extended until some time after the library re-opens. The James V. Brown will announce new due dates at that time.
