Homeless man charged with stealing car from Montoursville
Shortly after allegedly stealing a woman’s car outside the Montoursville Turkey Hill at 300 Broad St. about 6 p.m. on Dec. 20, William Mark Kester, a 65-year-old homeless man, was taken into custody at an establishment in the 700 block of West Fourth Street in the city, borough police said.
The owner of the car had left it running while she went into the convenience store, police said.
With the help of an app on the victim’s cellphone, police were able to pinpoint the location of the vehicle, court records stated.
The car was parked outside the establishment, where Kester was located. Surveillance video showed Kester inside the convenience store moments before the vehicle theft, police said.
At first he denied taking the car, but then he told another officer “Well, I needed a ride,” court records stated.
Arraigned before Dieter on a felony theft charge, Kester was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail.
