Four face charges in separate incidents

Charges filed after woman allegedly ‘body slammed’ a man during argument

Holly Ann Markel, 53, of 2549 Lick Run Road, has been charged with simple assault and harassment following an incident at her home on Dec. 16, according to state police. It all started when the alleged victim, an adult male whose father lives at the same house as Markel, dropped off several other residents who live at the Eldred Township property, police said. Although the victim had left, he soon returned after Markel refused to allow one of the residents inside, said an affidavit.

An argument ensued between Markel and the victim once he returned to the house, police said. Markel then “‘body slammed’ the victim by shoving him with her body weight when he attempted to walk past her,” police alleged in the court document. The man lost his balance, causing his right shoulder to slam into a porch post, police said. He was treated at UPMC Muncy, police added.

Markel was held for court on the two charges following her preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Whiteman and is free on $5,000 bail.

Old Lycoming Township man locked up on charges

After nearly striking several children with his car while traveling the wrong way on a one-way street in the 500 block of Eighth Avenue about 6:13 p.m. March 12, Michael C. Welch brandished a handgun at a witness who confronted him before he fled in his vehicle, city police alleged in an affidavit.

A short time later, officers were dispatched to the Newberry Estates, 2500 Federal Ave., to investigate a report that Welch, 20, was running through the development, police said. Welch was taken into custody in the 2500 of Dove Street after he was “engaged in a fight,” police said, adding that he was carrying a loaded handgun.

There were no serial numbers on the firearm, the affidavit stated.

At the police station, Welch managed to slip out of a set of handcuffs and tried to flee the building, but was caught before exiting, court records stated.

Following his arraignment before Whiteman on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, felony attempted escape, simple assault, recklessly endangering and disorderly conduct, the Old Lycoming Township resident was jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.

DuBoistown man allegedly tried to buy a firearm illegally

Although he was a defendant in a protection from abuse order that prohibited him from possessing a firearm, Blayze Kline, 22, of 345 Westland Ave., DuBoistown, walked into Sauers Trading, 1100 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, on Dec. 27 and attempted to purchase a handgun, South Williamsport police alleged in an affidavit.

In the same complaint, police allege he submitted false information on a government form.

He has been charged with attempted illegal possession of a firearm and providing false information on a government form, police said. Court documents stated that Kline attempted to purchase a firearm in the Canton area back in March 2023, just a few weeks after he was served with a different protection from abuse order.

Following his recent arraignment before Whiteman on the South Williamsport police charges, Kline was initially jailed, but has since been released on $50,000 bail.

George, 39, of 1196 John Brady Drive, Muncy, has waived his preliminary hearing on charges of terroristic threats, stalking and harassment following an incident dating back to Aug. 23, 2022, when he pursued a male acquaintance in his vehicle, “revving his engine, blowing his horn and following dangerously close” to the victim’s vehicle on Route 405 in Wolf Township, state police alleged in court documents.

He also sent threatening text messages to an aunt, regarding the victim, who at the time was the aunt’s boyfriend, police alleged. George, whose court proceeding was before District Judge Kirsten Gardner, is free on $15,000 bail.
