Crosscutters drop to 3-3 after losing third consecutive game to West Virginia

After starting the season 3-0, the Williamsport Crosscutters were swept by the West Virginia Black Bears in a road series, falling in the finale 4-2 on Thursday to drop to 3-3.

Ryan Kennell, a Williamsport native, led the Crosscutters by going 2 for 3 with a walk and run scored, raising his batting average to .467. Armani Newton recorded a 2 for 4 night with a double and an RBI. Hayden Jatczak also added an RBI to bring his season total to three.

Denton Biller got the start on the mound and threw the first three innings, allowing just one run on one hit with two walks and four strikeouts. Merit Jones went the next four innings and was strong in relief, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Brad Rudis took the loss and fell to 0-1 after managing just 1/3 innings of work and allowing two Black Bear runs on one hit with a walk and no strikeouts.

Williamsport returns to Bowman Field to open a six-game, seven-day homestand. That begins on Friday for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch against the Trenton Thunder wtih left-handed pitcher Bailey Matela (1-0) expected to get the start.
