Tocco notches hat trick in debut for Warriors, as Lyco men’s lacrosse falls to King’s

First-year Garis Tocco debuted with three goals and an assist to lead the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 18, as Lycoming rallied from a six-goal deficit before falling to King’s College, 10-8, in the season opener at UPMC Field.

Junior Brogan Wooley added a goal and two assists and sophomore James Hall-Melnychuck added two assists, three ground balls and caused two turnovers for the Warriors. Sophomore Braden Hill posted a goal and caused two turnovers and junior Luis Servin also added three groundballs. First-year Gavin Bicher won 10-of-19 faceoffs and had three groundballs.

Midway through the second quarter, King’s held a 6-1 advantage and pushed that to 8-2 at halftime. The Warriors came out of the locker room and scored two goals early in the third, one from Hill and one from first-year Connor Thompson to cut the lead to four. After a King’s goal, the Warriors opened the fourth with four straight, closing within 9-8 with 9:37 left after a score from sophomore Cesar Carmona-Felipe. That was as close as Lycoming could get, though, with King’s adding an insurance score with 4:06 left.

Miles Wilson and Brenden Lynch each had four goals for the Monarchs and Ryan Lynch added a goal and three assists. Josh Hiilpp led the team with five groundballs.

Junior goalkeeper Evan Donnelly made 11 saves in his debut for the Warriors. Ryan Rickards stopped nine shots in the win for the Monarchs.

The Warriors are back on the field on Saturday when they host Gwynedd Mercy at 1 p.m., at UPMC Field.
