Julie Friel continued her outstanding senior season, pitching and hitting Montoursville into the playoffs Thursday afternoon. Friel threw a one-hit shutout, struck out nine and hit an RBI single as the Warriors blanked Warrior Run, 1-0 and clinched a District 4 Class AAA playoff berth. Montoursville (10-5, 7-1) also stayed tied for first with Loyalsock in the HAC-II. Loyalsock boys, Hughesville girls have success in track and field quad-meet vs. Mifflinburg, Southern

Hughesville and Loyalsock competed in a quad meet featuring Southern Columbia and Mifflinburg. Loyalsock’s boys team beat Southern (107-30) and Mifflinburg (111-34) while Hughesville beat Mifflinburg (123-27). On the girls side, Loyalsock beat Southern (81-55) and Hughesville beat Mifflinburg (112-38). The Lancers lost to Mifflinburg, 87-55. Loyalsock’s Danny Dowell won both the 100 and 200 to help the Lancers’ boys track and field team excel. LHU softball sweeps Mansfield on the road

LOCK HAVEN — The Lock Haven softball team traveled to Mansfield on Tuesday afternoon for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East doubleheader and took care of business as the Bald Eagles swept the Mounties, 9-0, in five innings and 4-3. With the sweep, Lock Haven snapped a four-game skid to improve to 25-17 on the season and 15-11 in the PSAC East. Milton has four girls win at least two events each; Cintron leads Montoursville boys with two wins

MILTON — Montoursville competed in a dual meet against Milton on the road. The team scores for the boys and girls competition weren’t made available. Milton had four athletes claim two wins each on the girls side in Brianna Holovich, Jayanah Jones, Elizabeth Schrock and Sienna Short. Holovich won the 1,600 with a time of 6:00.71, winning by nearly 13 seconds, and won the 3,200 in 14:22.71, winning by more than 40 seconds. TURBOTVILLE — The area had plenty of success as Warrior Run, South Williamsport, Sullivan County and Montgomery competed in a multi-dual in Turbotville which featured Bloomsburg and Meadowbrook Christian as well. Montgomery’s Jace Hanford won the high jump with a height of 6 feet, winning by eight inches of Warrior Run’s Carter McCormick (5-4). Dylan Sherman of Montgomery tied McCormick for second. LHU baseball falls to Bloomsburg in nine innings 11-10

BLOOMSBURG — The Lock Haven baseball team traveled to Bloomsburg for a single, nine-inning battle and despite a valiant comeback effort, fell 11-10 in walk-off fashion. Lock Haven homered twice and tied the game at 10-10 with a four-run ninth inning, however, Bloomsburg escaped with the win after walking it off in the bottom of the ninth.   The Huskies jumped to an early 7-0 lead after a seven-run second inning.
