Golf tip of the week: Proper grip will increase your desired ball flight
PHOTO PROVIDED See two knuckles on the left hand.
Regardless of a golfer’s grip style–overlapping, interlocking, or baseball–the thumbs should not be on top of the grip. A weak grip induces slices and a loss in distance.
The Vs formed by the index fingers and thumbs should point to the right shoulder area for the right-hand golfer and the left shoulder for the left-hand golfer.
Turning the Vs more to the right (to the left for the left-hand golfer) causes the ball to draw or hook.
Every golfer is different, therefore, creating the ball flight he/she desires takes some experimenting.
The Vs should never point to the left of the right cheek for a right-hand golfer and the right of the right cheek for a left-hand golfer. A good start is to see two knuckles of the left hand for a right-hand golfer and two knuckles of the right hand for a left-hand golfer.
Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
