Loyalsock knew it would be in for a tough test against undefeated Central Columbia at home on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for the Lancers, the Blue Jays didn’t need too long to score and from there, the Blue Jays rolled.
Central Columbia scored two goals within the first 12 minutes of Tuesday’s game en route to an 8-0 win to remain unbeaten while the Lancers fall to .500 at 3-3. Central Columbia had four players score goals in the win.
“It’s something where we’ve got a lot of dangerous guys all over across the field. When they get it moving and getting it from side to side, through the lines, to the corners, they can be really dangerous,” Central Columbia coach Zach Diehl said. “They’re all quick, athletic kids that are all dangerous in 1 on 1 situations. We have a lot of weapons up there who can really hurt somebody.”
Loyalsock coach Steve Ertel declined comment after the game.
Loyalsock trailed just 3-0 at halftime, and one of those first-half goals by the Blue Jays came on a penalty kick. Defensively, the Lancers were able to close in often on Blue Jay players, quickly neutralizing a threat through the first 40 minutes whenever it seemed a player like Torin Karns, Dominc Taylor or Anthony Sedor got open.

“That was one of things I said at halftime, they were really collapsing us back quickly. It’s something I was rather impressed with,” Diehl said of Loyalsock’s defense. “They were getting people back in numbers quickly, shutting down the one on ones, shutting down the passing lanes. They did a really good job with that.”
Karns and Sedor put Central Columbia up 2-0, respectively, with 28 minutes until halftime.
With 13:26 to play, Central Columbia got inside of the 18 and had a 1-v-1 look against Lancer keeper Brycen Savoy, but Loyalsock quickly swarmed and prevented a shot from getting fired.
That type of defensive pressure helped keep Loyalsock in the game early heading into halftime.
The Blue Jays made it a 3-0 lead with 11:26 to play until the break.

The flood gates opened in the second half, however, as Central Columbia scored less than three minutes in on a penalty kick, and then scored twice in a 10-minute span for a fast 6-0 lead to put the game away before adding two more goals before the horn finally went off.
Karns had a hat trick for the Blue Jays while Sedor and Gaige Gensemer both scored twice.
“We can just move the ball. We got so many people who can control the ball, get it moving and moving it from side to side, looking for our best option and looking for our guys up front,” Diehl said. “We got a lot of guys who play a lot of soccer and are comfortable on the ball, so it makes it easy.”
Loyalsock was without its usual keeper in Connor Lang, but Savoy stepped up in goal. While the end result on the scoreboard showed an eight-goal deficit, it wasn’t at all indicative of how well Savoy played in goal. The senior, who’s usually a midfielder, recorded eight saves in the loss and did everything he could for the Lancers between the pipes. He had four saves in each half, including a few diving blocks.
“I thought he was really good. For just stepping in if it’s not their usual goal keeper, stepping up against guys who play a lot of soccer and score a lot of goals and he did a really good job tonight,” Diehl said of Loyalsock’s goalie. “The result might not show it, but he was way better than the score showed.”

Loyalsock was able to get some offense going in the second half. After not recording a single shot through the first 40 minutes, Loyalsock had three shots on goal in the second half as Evan Anderson, Wesley Johnson and David Bjorkman all rifled shots to try and break up the shutout.
Loyalsock heads to Warrior Run on Thursday for a 7 p.m. night game before hosting South Williamsport on Monday evening.
