Taber Museum to feature paintings from its permanent collection

According to a press release, the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will feature a number of artworks from its permanent collection during the month of August in its Community Room. The paintings will serve as a backdrop to several America250 presentations which include appearances by Thoeodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, Chaplain McCormick of the Bucktail Regiment, and Harriet Tubman.
Artists represented include Frances Tipton Hunter, Roy Rightmire, Henry B. Mussina, Peter Gstalder, Frank K.M. Rehn, C. Lee Berry, James Bressler, Barbara Ertel, Karl Volkmer, Phyllis Michaels, John Beck, Vincent Maragiotti, Simon Ward, and William Roos.
A few of the paintings were created by students while at the Curtin Middle School in the 1930s. The young artists included Emily J. Nutt, Shirley Painter, Margaret Kissinger, Tillie DiRado (possibly Matilda Poretto?), and Kathleen Brooks. Also included is a painting attributed to Annie Snyder, Clinton County native. The exhibit was curated by Williamsport Area High School student Ava Girton and Dickinson College student Nate Wiley.
The museum is open for touring Tuesdays through Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. to4:00 p.m.; and Sundays, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, visit www.tabermuseum.org or call 570-326-3326.
