In 1929, 1993 local Hall of Fame inductee Vance Miller was born in Jersey Shore. Miller was elected president of the local association for the 1966-67 season after serving on the board of directors since 1958. After his presidency, he served proficiently as secretary of the association from 1967, when the first average books were compiled, until 1974, producing many interesting statistics each season.
He served on the committee which obtained the bid for the 1963 PSBA State Tournament, the first PSBA tournament ever hosted by the local association. At the 1971 state convention, Miller was the key speaker for our association committee which brought the tournament to Williamsport again in 1974.
After returning home from the Korean War, Miller started bowling in 1952 at the age of 23 at the Jersey Shore YMCA, where he had been a pin boy from 1943 until he entered the service in 1948. His career highs were a 188 average, a 682 series and a 289 game. He was the owner/operator of the Harvest Moon Lanes in Linden for 37 years. He had the foresight to keep what is believed to be the only remaining complete set of yearly average books that still exist in the local association.
Hope to see you on the lanes.
