Central Mountain swimming sweeps dual meet against Shamokin on the road
Central Mountain had a solid performance at Shamokin in swimming. The Wildcat girls won, 97-63, while the boys earned a 99-49 victory.
Both teams had solid efforts.
The boys team set the tone early by going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay. Neil Kaluzny, Jonathan Hughes, Cory Matejovich and Raiden Newcomer won the opening event. Kaluzny, Hughes, Matejovic and Newcomer also won the 200 free relay later in the meet.
Kaulzny and Cory Matejovich followed that up with a 1-2 finish in the 200 free. Kaluzny won with a time of 2:12.13 while Rhys Swift won the 200 IM finishing in 2:28.56. Swift also won the 500 free with a PR of 5:50.28.
Hughes dominated in the 50 free and 100 fly. In the 100 free, it was Wildcat sophomore Newcomer with the win and a PR of 57.41. Wildcat teammate Bryce Warren finished in second with a PR and district-qualifying time of 59.24.
Warren would pick up a victory later in the meet as he won the 100 breast in 1:18.57.
In girls competition, the Wildcats won nine of the 11 contested events. The 200 medley and free relay teams of Camryn Bair, Gabriella Hosley, Ana Persun and Abrianna Hosley picked up two victories for the Wildcats. They outdistanced their competition by more than eight seconds in both relay events.
Individually, four Wildcats claimed gold in seven of the eight events. Abrianna Hosley won the 200 IM and 100 back. Gabriella Hosley claimed victories in the 200 free and 100 fly. Senior Ana Persun won the 100 free and 100 breast. Bair finished first in the 500 free.
The Central Mountain boys improved to 9-2 while the girls are now 10-1. Central Mountain’s final dual is at Lock Haven on Wednesday, Feb. 14, against Williamsport.
